Zoloft (Sertraline)

SHOULD NOT BE USED OR SHOULD BE USED CAREFULLY WHEN THERE IS
use of other drugs for depression (within 2-5 weeks)

use of other drugs for tension (e.g., Valium, within 14 days)

use of diabetic drugs

epilepsy

possible suicide

kidney or liver disease

Parkinson's disease

seizures

electroshock treatment

pregnancy, nursing


USE OF THIS DRUG MAY CAUSE

often:
increased effect of Valium

sexual problems (16%)

lack of strength and muscle coordination, shakiness (10%)

sleeplessness (16%), drowsiness (13%)

headache (20%)

dizziness (11%)

fatigue (10%)

sweating

bloating

confusion

appetite change, weight loss

sometimes:
dry mouth

urinary problems

numbness, tingling

heart rhythm changes, low blood pressure

manic phase in manic-depressives

depression

forgetfulness, confusion

nervousness

nausea, constipation, digestive problems, diarrhea

vomiting

fatigue

coughing

eyesight problems

chills

skin rash

menstrual problems

rarely:
heart attack

coma (passing out)

hysteria, hallucinations, suicide, mania

convulsions

chest, ear, eye pain

breast enlargement (male and female)

hernia

bad breath


REMEMBER
  • Zoloft is similar to Prozac (see information about Prozac). It should not be used to treat mild (transient) depression.

  • 15% of people taking this drug have stopped due to problems.

  • Withdrawal symptoms can be severe with psychiatric drugs. If you stop taking them, do it slowly.

  • You should not drive, operate machines, play sports, or do dangerous things until you know what this drug does to you.

  • Tell your nurse, doctor, pharmacist or dentist about any other drugs you are taking before any new treatment. Check with them before you take any medicine, even if it isn't a prescription drug.

  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the problems or conditions listed or anything unusual is happening, especially any skin reaction, or agitation, excitement, vomiting or seizures.
