Woman charged in human trafficking investigation at Cambridge spa

A 45-year-old Cambridge woman was charged for allegedly profiting from sexual services at her spa and human trafficking, with a man also charged.

A 45-year-old Cambridge woman has been charged with allegedly profiting from sexual services offered at her business and human trafficking.

Waterloo Regional Police said they began a human trafficking investigation into a spa, in the area of Industrial Road and McGovern Drive, in March 2023 after a report the business was offering sexual services.

Police determined the business, and its owners, were allegedly profiting from sexual services offered at the spa and women that had been procured for employment provided sexual services.

On Thursday, police issued a search warrant at the spa and a residence in Cambridge. Proceeds of crime, including the unit in which the business was operating, the corporate bank account and a luxury SUV were seized.

The woman was charged with several criminal offences, including communication for the purpose of sexual services, obtain material benefit from sexual services, two counts of procurement, uttering forged documents and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 58-year-old Cambridge man was also charged with obtaining material benefit from sexual services.

The pair were held in police custody for a bail hearing.

Human Trafficking investigators believe there may be more victims, police said.
