8 men accused of soliciting sex from a minor in London police sting

Police allege the suspects believed they were communicating with someone underage

An undercover sting operation has led London police to arrest and charge eight local men with allegedly trying to obtain sexual services from a minor.

Police say the two-day investigation occurred late last month on an unspecified online platform.

It's alleged the seven London men and one Woodstock man had tried to obtain sexual services from an undercover officer who was posing as a minor, police said.

"In each case, the suspect males were aware that they were communicating with someone believed to be under the age of 18," police said in a statement.

The eight accused, ranging in age from 22 to 34, each face a charge of communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18.

Police say the investigation was led by the department's human trafficking unit with assistance from the OPP.

"Crime knows no boundaries, and neither do our efforts to combat it. Working with other police services and partner organizations strengthens investigations," police said in a statement.

The eight accused have all been released from custody with court dates in London dating between Nov. 27 and Dec. 11, police said.
