Hookers Plight

SCOTLAND — More than 80 per cent of Scotland's prostitutes have been beaten up by clients.

The first study of its kind in Britain found 37 per cent of street girls have been robbed and 24 per cent threatened with a weapon. Prostitutes were surveyed across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Leeds by researchers from Glasgow University.

The problem is at its worst in Glasgow where seven have been murdered since 1991. They were six times more likely to be attacked than those in Edinburgh, where 90 per cent of prostitutes work in the city's 23 licensed saunas.
