Johns ID'd to fight HIV

ABBOTSFORD -- Police here will release the names of 47 suspected johns nabbed last week partly in the interests of community health, said Const. Elly Sawchuk.

She said the move is meant to notify families of a possible risk of contracting the human immunodeficiency virus, believed to cause AIDS.

"I guarantee that half of those women (prostitutes) are HIV positive because they are intravenous drug-users," she said. "They could be passing that on."

The names will be released Friday.
