Charged principal suing

A suspended principal charged with child-pornography offences is taking the Burnaby school district to court.

William Bennest, former principal of Clinton elementary, says there is nothing in the School Act that allows trustees to revoke his pay.

His B.C. Supreme Court suit also says the decision violates the constitutional right to be presumed innocent. He wants his pay restored retroactively to Oct. 22.

Bennest, 52, of Vancouver, has been charged with making and possessing child pornography, sexually assaulting a boy under 14 and procuring the services of a male under the age of 18.
